Ezekiel’s Vision: The Most Famous Alien Encounter

For many generations, for hundreds of years we were conditioned to read the Bible only one way or the other:

  • Atheists deny everything, calling it “myth”
  • Christians believe everything, but treat all the miracles and seemingly impossible events the same way: “God is all-powerful and everything is possible.”

But could we, for one second, imagine that whatever is described in the Bible, actually happened, but the witnesses could only describe it in the terms known to them? Can we imagine that those events were not something “miraculous”, but instead, encounters of humans with an extremely advanced extraterrestrial race?

Just think about it: how would the ancient people act if they saw amazing, unexplained technology? What words would they use? What would they do?

Also think, how much the Bible has lost in translations and numerous editions! Could it be that the original Holy Book depicted the events a lot more clearly and the original words and descriptions got twisted and distorted with time?

If you try to read the Bible from the point of view of a modern person, being aware of technology and science, you would clearly see that the book is full of very interesting events and encounters. It becomes obvious that a lot of Biblical characters are pretty tangible and not at all angel-like. What they really resemble is members of a highly advanced race, their magic tools and flying chariots look like space craft and weapons and their miracles feel too much like advanced science.

Let’s take some events, depicted in the Old Testament of the King James Bible and try to look at them from a modern point of view and see what happens. Today, I would like to take a closer look at perhaps the most famous extraterrestrial encounter in the Bible: Ezekiel’s Vision.

Ezekiel's Vision

The Spacecraft

The story starts in the Book of Ezekiel, Chapter One. Ezekiel, a Jewish priest, was standing by a river when he suddenly saw the following:

“And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.”

What did he see? A space craft? Why do gods always descend in something that produces extreme noise, bright fire and smoke? God, an all-powerful God shouldn’t need a tangible vessel to go anywhere. Yet, he always comes in one. After the craft landed, strange creatures came out.

The Creatures

“Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle. “

So, those creatures were obviously alive and men-like. They were no spirits. They had metal suits with heavy boots. The suits had something attached to them: it resembled wings, but it could be anything: tools, weapons… The creatures had regular hands as well, as Ezekiel pointed out. But what’s with four faces? Were those some kind of helmets? Perhaps, they just looked like this, or maybe this was the design of the helmets.

Ezekiel's Vision

“As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.”

So, we see that the suits of the creatures were obviously very interesting. Ezekiel describes them not only as shiny, but literally, electrical. Electrical suits… again, technology?

The Wheels

The creatures were not alone. There was something with them that Ezekiel calls “wheels”.

“The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.

When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.

As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four.

And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.”

OK, we have some kind of a personal craft, a weapon or a tool. Anyway, it is something that looks like wheels within wheels with eyes around the perimeter. The strange things follow the creatures by their side and repeat their movements. Maybe, they were some kind of robots? But it’s not all. There was a bigger ship above their heads that contained something, possibly the leader, let’s call him the Captain..

“And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.”

The four-faced creatures moved around, creating a pretty loud noise, but when they finally stopped, the Captain made contact.

“And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.”

“And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.”

Ezekiel, naturally, was terrified. What would you do if you were him? At those times, such an encounter was way over his head. But the Captain assured him that he shouldn’t be afraid and delivered him a message and further instructions. The story doesn’t end here, but you can read it in the Bible yourself if you are interested. Trust me, there is more, and it goes for pages and pages!

Ezekiel's Vision

Now, read this whole encounter in the Bible again, and ask yourself: what really are these creatures? What is this wheel in wheel technology?

Theories About Ezekiel’s Wheels

Apparently, many people asked themselves this question. Many researchers and scientists tried to explain the strange devices. Some even tried to recreate them. One of the scientists was a NASA engineer Joseph F. Blumrich, who originally wanted to disprove the theory. However, after digging deeper into it, became a firm believer and even wrote a book: “The Spaceships of Ezekiel”.

Based on the description of the wheels in the Ezekiel vision, Blumrich created and patented an “omnidirectional wheel”, a wheel that can move in all directions at once. A wheel within a wheel within a wheel.

Another idea about what Ezekiel wheel resembled, comes from India. The transport of the Indian gods, vimanas, are described as having some kind of a gyroscopic device. A modern gyroscope looks exactly like “a wheel inside a wheel inside a wheel”. Curious, isn’t it?

Other Encounters with the Same Creatures

Not any less interesting is this: 500 years later, in the Chapter 4 of Revelations, a similar encounter to Ezekiel’s Vision was described by the writer, John. The creatures had six wings instead of four (during 500 years, alien race evolved as well? 🙂 ), but really, all the rest is pretty much identical.

“And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.

And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.”

What does it tell us? First, now we cannot say that Ezekiel made it all up. Another witness 500 years later couldn’t possibly repeat the description of the creatures and their devices almost word for word.

It shows us that it possibly really happened this way. What exactly Ezekiel saw, will probably always remain a mystery, but one thing is obvious: these were not spirits, not angels and not gods, at least in the traditional body-less way. They were tangible, flesh-and-blood creatures, who wore special suits and had special craft, devices, machines, weapons and tools. They possessed sophisticated technology and actively interacted with humans.

There are a lot more interesting encounters with extraterrestrials in the Bible. Take, for example, the story of Lot and his strange saviors or the story of Jonah, who spent three days and nights in the belly of a whale! But these are subjects for another time…

So, what do you think of the Ezekiel’s encounter? Do you think those characters were extraterrestrials? Why or why not? Share in the comments!
